Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Sample Review: Great consistency but short on flavor

syntha-6 protein crisp review

At this year’s Olympia Expo in Las Vegas, BSN was doing more than just the usual sampling of current supplements. The big red brand was actually giving out pre-release samples of the protein bar it was promoting in its posters, Syntha-6 Protein Crisp. There were quite a few flavors available to try, which we did get our hands on and have a review for one here today.

Seeing as BSN has yet to officially release Syntha-6 Protein Crisp, we are going to keep this review short and sweet. Not just because we’re only going to be talking about one of the product’s flavors, but because the sample we have is a pre-release one and we’re not 100% certain on whether the bar that will eventually hit shelves is going to be exactly the same.

As you could have guessed by the name, the Syntha-6 Protein Crisp is a Rice Krispie-like bar. It is along the same lines as the Ooh Snap Crispy Protein Bar from Applied Nutraceuticals, although it doesn’t have an all over coat. The flavor we’ve decided to review today is BSN’s Chocolate Bar, which isn’t actually too bad. It’s not anywhere near as hard as it looks, with a very enjoyable crunchy consistency, similar to the delicious and tiny bit softer Ooh Snap.

While its consistency does make it quite the treat, the Syntha-6 Protein Crisp does fall down a fair amount in the flavor department. The product’s solid chocolate base and topping do add some excitement but nowhere near enough to properly compliment its crunchy consistency. It definitely packs enough chocolate to be able to identify its flavor, however nothing like any of Grenade’s seven delicious Carb Killas or even the somewhat similar Ooh Snap in its one Vanilla Marshmallow flavor.

Overall BSN’s Syntha-6 Protein Crisp is a pretty good protein bar competitor, and not really anything like all of the other supplements we’ve seen enter the category this year. As mentioned it could do with some more flavor, although in saying that, light and crispy might very well be the brand’s goal on this one. It also might just be the Chocolate Bar Syntha-6 Protein Crisp that’s light on flavor, we’ll just have to wait until the product’s released and try the full menu.
