Beyond Meat caught us off guard at the start of the year when the longtime plant-based meat specialist jumped into sports nutrition with Beyond Immerse, a light canned protein drink built around hydrolyzed pea protein. That move has since become much more than a one-off experiment, as the company, now positioning itself as Beyond The Plant Protein Company, has developed its first traditional protein powder in Beyond Starmatter.
The new Beyond Starmatter is more advanced than a straightforward vegan-friendly protein shake, providing 20g of protein from pea and faba bean and 5g of fiber per serving with absolutely no sugar. Where things really take a complex turn is that, in addition to the protein, the supplement has a whole 1g adaptogen blend, probiotics, extra ingredients dedicated to immune health, and a phytonutrient blend also at a gram per serving.
Beyond Starmatter is quite the innovation from Beyond Meat or Beyond The Plant Protein Company. It opens many different doors and avenues for the brand to go down, and it shows it’s not afraid to do things differently, which it well and truly is with the added health and wellness components. The supplement is somewhat pricey at $59.99 for a 20-serving bag, and there are plenty of flavors, including Vanilla, Strawberry Banana, Salted Caramel, a unique Golden Latte, and, for those who want a bit more versatility, Plain.
