Protein Choc Chunky Review: KitKat Chunky like protein bar

Protein Choc Chunky is one of the many protein bars available from Myprotein that’s a little newer than most. It originally caught our attention when the international brand shared pictures of it as it didn’t quite look like anything else we’d tried before.

Myprotein itself describes its Protein Choc Chunky as a combination of delicious crispy protein wafers and a coat of milk chocolate. Each 48g bar packs 14g each of protein and fat, less than 3g of sugar, 11.2g of fiber, all for a total of 228 calories. While those macros aren’t as good as a typical protein bar, after you’ve had a bite you’ll likely be okay with that.

Review

Wafer style protein bars typically have a grainy, doughy taste to them which isn’t the case with Myprotein’s Protein Choc Chunky. The wafers might have a hint of that by themselves; however, when you bite into this bar, you get wafers mixed with an incredibly thick and well-flavored chocolate coating that really drowns out the wafers.

The result of Protein Choc Chunky’s two parts coming together is an enjoyable mouthful of crispy wafers and a sweet chocolate that melts in your mouth. What makes the experience even better is that you seem to get more chocolate than wafer in each bite, so as you chew through you’re left with a delightful chocolate aftertaste.

As mentioned, the macros of Protein Choc Chunky aren’t as great as a bar with the more common nutrition profile of something like 20g of protein for 200 to 220 calories. It’d probably be better to think of this one as a clean treat where you’re trading a few grams of protein for the same calories, but a delicious, chocolate filled, candy-like taste.

Summary

Overall, if you can fit the macros of Myprotein’s Protein Choc Chunky into your diet, the bar is well worth a try. We’d best describe it as a protein version of a KitKat Chunky featuring the varying consistencies of crispy wafers and a milk chocolate coating that’s close, but not as sweet as the real thing.

If you’d like to purchase the enjoyable Myprotein bar you’ll have to go through the brand’s international (not US) website to purchase. At myprotein.com the Protein Choc Chunky isn’t priced too badly at £19.99 (27.93 USD) for a box of 10 bars, which basically works out to £2 per bar.
