After starting out in the pre-workout category, then moving into weight loss and testosterone boosting, Mad Science in Australia has gone the nutrition route with a protein-based supplement, although it isn’t what you’d expect. The growing company has revealed and released Mad Gains, a high-calorie mass gainer, not the usual first step into protein-packed products, which would be the traditional and lean protein powder.
Mad Science’s Mad Gains isn’t anything overly complex; it comes with a standard blend of carbohydrate sources and a good amount of protein, but not from the usual whey or milk. A serving of the supplement packs 30g of protein with incomplete collagen as the primary source and 120g of carbs from a mix of maltodextrin, waxy maize, and potato starch. The fat is less than a gram, and the calories come out to a moderate 629.
There is also an infusion of creatine into Mad Gains at a solid 3g per serving, so if you bump up the serving to get 50g of protein, the creatine will move to 5g, carbohydrates at 200g, and the calories land just over 1,000. This is the first time we’ve seen a collagen mass gainer, and it certainly has its audience; it’s just important to know that it is collagen-based. Consumers can grab Mad Science’s high-protein and higher-carb Mad Gains from retailers in 25 serving bags, and four flavors, including Chocoholic and Berry Smoothie.
