Pain & Gain coming April 2013, the Rock and Marky Mark on screen bodybuilders

For those fitness freaks who were already excited about the upcoming release of Generation Iron. The 2012 version of the classic Pumping Iron and it’s docudrama take on the 1975 Mr. Olympia. Then you will most likely be interested in the Michael Bay film Pain & Gain. The movie focuses on three gym junkies played by Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Mackie and the people’s champ, Dwayne Johnson. You can get a basic idea of the story line from the trailer, but it looks like one of the most interesting parts of the film is going to be the portrayal of the 1995 bodybuilding culture.

It is almost guaranteed that Generation Iron will increase the popularity of the sport and industry just like Pumping Iron did with Arnold 25 years ago. Pain & Gain on the other hand seems to have kept well away from the drama genre with it’s comedic elements and edgy true story. Making us wonder if the movie is going to educate people with more than ego mirrors and protein shakes or just reinforce the ‘knucklehead’ stereotype that the general public are already very familiar with.
