GAT PMP review: Being effective just doesn’t cut it anymore

gat pmp review

Of all the pre-workouts launched recently, GAT’s PMP (Peak Muscle Performance) definitely had the most going for it in terms of hype. The brand teased the supplement weeks before a preview or even a name was released, which really helped it get a lot of attention including our’s. Due to all the noise it was making and the questions we were getting about it, we decided to pick up PMP at the Olympia. Since then we’ve been using it here and there, then gave it a good run over the past two weeks to bring you our complete GAT PMP review.

Giving PMP the benefit of the doubt

On paper GAT’s PMP isn’t exactly a good-looking formula, although as always we did give it the benefit of the doubt hoping that it would turn out better than it’s label suggests. The product is basically made up of three blends, the first being its NO Enhancers proprietary combining CarnoSyn beta-alanine, arginine, citrulline, citrulline malate, and norvaline for a total of 3.125g. As mentioned we do always give supplements the benefit of the doubt, but GAT didn’t make it easy as something like Pre Jym’s combination of just citrulline malate and CarnoSyn weighs almost triple that at 8g.

Also on PMP’s label you have the Pump Accelerators blend bringing together agmatine sulfate, glycerol, arginine AKG and calcium lactate for a total of 900mg. Again GAT didn’t make it easy on this one as we are more used to seeing agmatine and glycerol alone totaling over a gram. Lastly you have the 700mg focus complex with n-acetyl l-tyrosine and theanine, as well as 325mg of caffeine and 200mg of acetyl l-carnitine. As low as a lot of the ingredients appear to be, again we did give it the benefit of the doubt however unfortunately this is one of those products that performs exactly as you’d expect.

Complete, but average

The best way for us to describe GAT’s PMP would be average. While it is average the supplement is no way ineffective as it does have energy, a touch of pump and a little bit of performance. The problem is that all the effects are extremely weak compared to what else is out there. In today’s pre-workout market as we’ve said many times before, the trick isn’t about putting together something that’s just effective. Thanks to the competition being so fierce a brand really needs to take things further than just effective to standout, or at least have an impression on us.

Like a lot of pre-workouts PMP does have a kick, but it isn’t something that’s going to get you up and running, or anything that will give you that little bit extra if you’re already pretty zoned in. The same thing goes for the pump as the product will add a bit to your workout, although if you’re someone who aims for a good pump anyway you probably won’t notice much. As for the performance side of PMP, this is kind of the best thing about the pre-workout. The combination of ingredients does manage to help out quite a bit when it comes to endurance and fueling your body, which will at least encourage a solid workout performance wise.

All together the effects in GAT’s PMP do make it somewhat of a complete pre-workout, the problem is they’re not very strong. The effects are noticeable, some more than others, however as explained earlier the pre-workout game is extremely competitive. While the supplement is effective in a number of areas, it’s simply not as effective as a lot of competing pre-workouts that have really raised the bar over the last few years.

Effective just doesn’t cut it anymore

Most of our disappointment in GAT’s PMP is kind of our fault. The brand had hyped it up to be a top pre-workout, so despite how the formula looked we gave it the benefit of the doubt and became quite excited. In the end though it didn’t bring anything big to the table, being fairly average in every area it delivers. The product actually reminds us of a few other pre-workouts that don’t come close to any of our favorites, but for whatever reason are rather popular.

At the end of the day even if we weren’t expecting a lot, our GAT PMP review would definitely have been the same. The supplement just doesn’t have anything worth highlighting like other new 2015 entries such as Nutrabolics Supernova with its incredible performance power, or Goldstar’s bar raising focus formula Triple X. The performance does shine for a short moment, although not enough to make PMP memorable or standout in the very populated pre-workout category.
