Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Review: Closer to a Rice Krispie than a protein bar

syntha-6 protein bar review

Ever since we got a few samples of BSN’s most recent protein bar release, the Syntha-6 Protein Crisp, back at last year’s Olympia. We’ve been waiting to try the finished Rice Krispie style product, as well as all four of its flavors. Over the past week we’ve been doing just that, and now have a review of our favorite Syntha-6 Protein Crisp flavors.

Smooth peanut butter flavor

First up we have our second favorite of the four Syntha-6 Protein Crisp flavors, with Peanut Butter Crunch. Unlike most peanut butter protein bars, this one isn’t too sweet with its title taste. The strong crispy consistency of the bar seems to really help smoothen out the overall flavor, which mostly comes from the solid peanut butter base.

The Peanut Butter Crunch Syntha-6 Protein Crisp also has a nice little feature to it with peanut bits spread throughout. It doesn’t add too much to the peanut taste, but it does make the consistency of the whole thing a bit more enjoyable. The most important part of all is that the bar’s combination of flavor and consistency doesn’t make it feel anything like a protein bar.

Soft, sugar like vanilla

As for our favorite Syntha-6 Protein Crisp, despite not being fans of anything vanilla, the Vanilla Marshmallow flavor is extremely impressive and the best by far. The bar packs an almost perfect balance of a sweet and sticky marshmallow consistency, with a nice soft, sugar like vanilla flavor.

While the Peanut Butter Crunch Syntha-6 Protein Crisp does an incredible job at not tasting like a protein bar, the Vanilla Marshmallow flavor is even better at it. Much like the Peanut Butter Crunch the base of Vanilla Marshmallow is where most of its title taste comes from, although it does die down a little quicker, leaving you with just the marshmallow filled body.

Closer to a Rice Krispie

We have to say we’re both surprised and impressed with BSN’s Syntha-6 Protein Crisp. In our initial sample review of the bar, we didn’t actually like it that much. We do however feel the final product is very different, having a lot more flavor and a much less crunchy consistency.

For 230 calories with 20g of protein, the Syntha-6 Protein Crisp is well worth adding to the protein bar cupboard. Its Rice Krispie style makes for a nice change of pace compared to all the harder, candy bar style products out there, and best of all BSN has got this tasting more like a Rice Krispie than your typical protein bar.
