Barebells Xmas Fudge Review: Not as chocolate as we had hoped

barebells xmas fudge review

Barebells’ Xmas Fudge is a limited-edition flavor of its number one rated protein bar that has of course, been launched for the season of giving. As per its title, the Swedish brand’s Christmas-edition product is a fudge-based flavor featuring a combination of creamy fudge and soft milk chocolate, covered in snow-like sprinkles.

Seeing as we rank the Barebells Protein Bar the best protein bar on the market, and the brand’s limited flavor from last year was so good it became a permanent flavor; we figured we’d get our hands on Xmas Fudge for review and see if it tastes as good as it sounds.

Review

The Xmas Fudge Barebells Protein Bar does come through on its description of creamy fudge and milk chocolate, although at a much lighter level than we were expecting. The flavor comes with the product’s signature smoothness and softness; however, all of its features don’t roll together as nicely as they do in some of the protein bar’s other options.

The Xmas Fudge Protein Bar does feel like a fudgy protein bar but only in regards to its consistency, as it is without any strong chocolate sweetness or flavor. It comes across as a more brownie-like bar, with that milk chocolate being surprisingly subtle, especially compared to the strength of chocolate in Barebells’ Hazelnut & Nougat and legendary Salty Peanut.

The one highlight of Barebells’ Xmas Fudge Protein Bar is the creamy fudge layer. It sits just below the surface of the chocolate coating, along the top of the main body, and it is indeed creamy. Not only does it add some smoothness to the whole experience, but there is a slight saltiness to it that makes it a lot more enjoyable.

Summary

Overall, the limited edition Xmas Fudge flavor is not too bad, but it is far from the best Barebells has to offer. The creamy layer certainly spices up the flavor of the product, but not enough to make it something we’d buy again. The protein bar’s leading flavors remain as Hazelnut & Nougat, Salty Peanut, Caramel Cashew, and Mint Dark Chocolate.
