Since the beverage giant Pepsi snapped up the hugely popular, better-for-you soda brand Poppi for almost two billion dollars, there has been a sharp rise in interest from health and nutrition brands in the category or type of beverage. Since then, Bloom Nutrition introduced its effort, Bloom Pop, The No Sugar Company unveiled its competitor in Super Soda, and now the latest is actually coming from Pepsi itself, in Pepsi Prebiotic Cola.
Pepsi has announced its first real functional soda with Pepsi Prebiotic Cola, a reflection of how far consumer demand has shifted toward better-for-you beverages. It’s extremely interesting to see that the product is coming from Pepsi, which again, now owns Poppi, but this is separate in that it’s under the iconic cola brand. The innovation aims to offer that familiar Pepsi flavor while providing the functional benefits of prebiotic fiber.
“Pepsi Prebiotic Cola represents the next leap forward in giving consumers choice, optionality and functional ingredients in their cola experience, without sacrificing the iconic Pepsi taste we’re known for delivering. We can’t wait for the world to try the taste of Pepsi Prebiotic Cola for themselves!” – PepsiCo Beverages CEO, Ram Krishnan.
Pepsi Prebiotic Cola comes with 3g of prebiotic fiber for better gut health and digestion, 5g of cane sugar, and 30 calories in a 12oz soda can, very similar to many others out there. The drink contains no artificial sweeteners and still delivers the familiar taste fans expect with the gut health functionality. The Prebiotic Cola is launching in Original Cola and Cherry Vanilla flavors, both rolling online this fall, then early next year everywhere else.
