High protein used to be reserved for protein powders, meal replacements, mass gainers, and even functional foods like protein bars, chips, and cookies. Over the last year, the proteinification trend has seen protein find its way into all different shapes, sizes, businesses, and industries. Fast food chains and restaurants have really jumped in full force, rolling out protein-loaded options, whether it be all-new menu items or extensions to already available entries.
Similar to Subway, Chipotle, and many other big-name chains, El Pollo Loco now has high-protein offerings with its Protein-Packed Double Pollo Salads. The well-known fire-grilled chicken restaurant has very simply put together double meat or double chicken versions of three of its popular salads. The add-on can be applied to El Pollo Loco’s Mexican Caesar Salad, which pumps it up to 52g of protein, and Street Corn and Bacon Ranch salads with a huge 61g.
Outside of the doubled protein, the salads are the same as they’ve always been, with the likes of the Bacon Ranch Salad still featuring a fresh blend of avocado, cotija cheese, chili lime, salsa, lettuce, and ranch dressing. El Pollo Loco’s new Protein-Packed Double Pollo Salads are more expensive than their standard counterparts, but you get it all back in added protein. The double chicken options are now available in the restaurant’s roughly 500 locations.
