A couple of days ago, details got out on the previously confirmed protein version of the hugely popular Doritos Tortilla Chips. The functional innovation is made with milk protein, leading to 10g of protein in a single ounce serving with 8g of carbohydrates, under a gram of sugar, and 150 calories. The macros aren’t as good as Quest or Legendary’s Protein Chips, although the big question was always going to be, how much difference in taste and value is there?
We have yet to try the Doritos Protein Chips for ourselves, so we’re not sure how good the taste and texture are; however, we have an idea of value, and it might be enough to have you reaching for this over other protein chips. According to a listing by popular food market Wegmans, the higher protein chips from Doritos will come out at around $5 a bag, which is incredibly competitive considering you get seven servings inside, working out to a total of 7oz.
If that price is right, that comes out to under a dollar a serving or about $1.50 if you double up and get 20g of protein. That is a far cry from almost any other protein chip on the market, with the likes of Legendary Foods Protein Chips being $22.99 for seven bags on its website. We still prefer the nutrition of Legendary and Quest over the Doritos Protein Chips, but as mentioned, that value could easily outweigh the extra calories for consumers.
