PepsiCo reveals plans for Protein Doritos Chips as well as color-free Naked Doritos

Protein Doritos Coming Soon

The proteinification of food has been everywhere this year, from Starbucks pumping up to over 40g of protein into a cup of coffee, to Tyson Foods packing 23g of protein and just 1g of carbohydrates in its High Protein Chicken Nuggets. This is most definitely not going to change heading into 2026, and Ramon Laguarta, CEO of the corporate giant PepsiCo, is one of the many reinforcing with plans to bring the trend to its iconic Doritos tortilla chips.

In a recent interview, Ramon Laguarta talks about innovations and trends PepsiCo and its many consumer brands will be leaning into, including Doritos Protein and Naked Doritos. Based entirely on the brief mention, it sounds like there will soon be a bag of Doritos chips that’s high, or at least higher in protein. That is entirely doable, as the Nacho Cheese flavor, for example, has only 2g of protein in a 28g serving, which leaves a lot of room to move.

Legendary Foods and Quest Nutrition both make tortilla-style protein chips and are great examples of just how lean things could potentially get in terms of protein-to-calories, in Doritos Protein Chips. As for Naked Doritos, that’s explained as a completely color-free variety, without artificial and natural colors. It’s been great seeing the proteinification of everything, and with more big names getting in next year, we look forward to all of the innovation.
