Tribulus Terrestris

Tribulus is one of the most popular herbs worldwide for male enhancement and testosterone boosting. It has been a staple in the dietary supplement industry since day one.

Despite its widespread popularity, you may want to rethink using this herb if your goal is to increase either free or total testosterone levels.

What it does

Although widely believed to increase testosterone, studies on both men and women have shown that tribulus will in fact not increase testosterone production[1][2][3]. Tribulus terrestris, however, has been shown to increase libido somewhat effectively[3].

How it works

Tribulus contains active components known as protodioscin which is a steroidal saponins. This compound is believed to provide increased libido due to its supposed androgen receptor immunoreactivity enhancement, or by increasing the concentration of androgen receptors found within cells, potentially allowing the user to become more sensitive to their own testosterone and DHT found within their body.

Dosing

This is an example of “more is better”. For starting doses, a dose of 1,500mg-2,500mg of 40% tribulus is suggested. Doses up to 5-6g/day have been reported with positive libido enhancing benefits.
