Amazon testing searchability and discovery of products outside of its platform

From Stack3d
Amazon Outside Shopping Testing

Amazon is taking its vast product selection to new heights despite already offering customers an unparalleled shopping experience across 35 or more different categories. That catalog has a total of over 300 million items with the opportunity of fast, free Prime delivery, and the e-commerce giant continues to expand it. In the past year alone, the company has added millions of new products, ranging from luxury brands to more cost-effective, budget-friendly options through initiatives like Amazon Haul.

In a major move to enhance customer convenience, Amazon is beta testing a new shopping experience that will display select products in search results even if they’re not sold directly through the platform. This innovative approach allows customers to discover items from external brands, with easy links to purchase directly from those brands’ websites. The feature aims to provide a more comprehensive catalog, combining Amazon’s vast inventory with additional options from all across the internet.

What this could mean for fans of sports nutrition supplements, functional foods, and even energy drinks, is that while some of those things may not be listed on Amazon, you’ll be able to find and purchase them through there once those unlisted brands set things up on their backend. It opens the door to an even bigger selection, an almost unlimited range of products, not just from the health and nutrition world, but every other industry, although, as mentioned, it is currently only in the early testing stage.
