After a lengthy and careful development, Primeval Labs is finally ready to release its long-awaited functional food debut with the Mazapan Protein Bar. This is intended to be a bit more than your traditional doughy bar wrapped in a chocolate coating. As per the name, the product has been designed and refined to feel and taste like the classic Mazapan peanut candy while still packing plenty of protein.
Mazapan itself is a deliciously sweet, powdery peanut candy that is immensely difficult to have just a single bite of. Primval Labs is shooting for that very experience in its Mazapan Protein Bar, made with peanut butter, honey, whey isolate for protein, peanut butter crisps, and chocolate for around the outside. The key ingredients sound similar to the classic Outright Bar, although we get the sense the brand played with that format a bit to get it close to Mazapan texture.

The nutrition profile is about on par with some of the other peanut butter-based protein snacks out there, packing 14g of protein in a 60g bar, 27g of carbohydrates, 11g of fat, and 250 calories. Those numbers are the same for the white chocolate-covered Original flavor and the milk chocolate Chocolate option. They get slightly leaner in the Avena variant, presumably looking to offer a more oat-style experience with a pinch more carbs and less fat for 230 calories.
It’s not often we see entirely new functional innovations out of North America, but Primeval Labs certainly sounds like it has one on its hands here with the Mazapan Protein Bar. If it is able to deliver that classic Mazapan consistency, it will make for an interesting experience, as we have had something like it before in Asia. Primeval is dropping its first-ever protein bar this Friday at a very reasonable $39.99 for a box of 12.
