Pop-Tarts releases a protein version although the sugar and cals are still really high

Pop Tarts Protein

The protein snack that put Legendary Foods on the map is its delicious, high-protein, low-carbohydrate Tasty Pastry or Protein Pastry, offering a Pop-Tarts-like experience but with significantly better macros. The legend itself, Pop-Tarts, has announced today that it is coming out with its own protein version of its iconic treat with Pop-Tarts Protein in three delicious flavors in Slammin’ Strawberry, Boostin’ Brown Sugar Cinnamon, and Bumpin’ Blueberry.

While we imagine the taste of Pop-Tarts Protein is on point, coming from the original company, the macros are nothing like what you get in Legendary Foods Protein Pastry, even with the extra protein. In a serving of two pieces, you get a combined 10g of protein, a huge 31g of sugar, and 380 to 400 calories. Basically, you get the same amount of sugar and calories as a regular Pop-Tarts flavor with double the protein, as they usually have 5g a serving.

We’ve seen a lot of mainstream brands infuse protein, and the majority of them have made the effort to make them better-for-you versions, not just a few extra grams of protein. Unfortunately, that is what you get in Pop-Tarts Protein, and while the brand has said it didn’t compromise on taste, it would have been nice to see it attempt lower sugar and calories. Again, it’s similar nutrition to a standard Pop-Tart, high sugar and all, but with 5g more protein
