RXBar is one of the most well-known functional food companies on the mainstream market, thanks to its flagship, no BS, moderate protein snack, the self-titled RXBar. The brand and product boldly list all of their ingredients on the front of the wrapper, providing obvious transparency you don’t get from many other competitors. The result is a healthy, real food-based item, which RXBar has expanded upon and rolled out a few other bar-format snacks.
The next innovation from the no BS, real food functional company is not in that rectangular bar shape; it is RXBar Protein Energy Bites, and just like the original RXBar, it rattles off its simple set of ingredients on the front. The product is made with a tablespoon of peanut butter, one egg white, a date, and two apple slices, combining to provide 8g of protein across two bite-sized balls, 25g of quality carbohydrates, 16g of that sugar, 10g of fat, and 200 calories.
The Protein Energy Bites themselves come with a typical energy ball build, with a hard outer, then inside is that tablespoon of sweet and smooth peanut butter. It is great to see RXBar step out of its comfort zone of protein bars and into another kind of shape and approach to nutrition, as these are more carbohydrate-heavy than the bars, hence the name. The innovation appears to be rolling out now in boxes of five packets, each with two bites, with two flavors to choose from in Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter and Strawberry Peanut Butter.
