iHerb acquires competing online retailer Vitacost from Kroger for an undisclosed amount

Iherb Acquires Vitacost From Kroger

There are several major online stores in the health and nutrition industry that have been going strong and are still relatively strong. You’ve got the likes of Bodybuilding.com, Muscle & Strength, Tiger Fitness, as well as some broader competitors in Vitacost and iHerb. Those two mainstream retailers have just become one essentially, as Vitacost owner Kroger has announced the sale of the online property to the international powerhouse that is iHerb.

Kroger acquired Vitacost back in 2014, over a decade ago, for an impressive $280 million. There is no mention of how much iHerb paid for the competing supplement store, which would be interesting to know in comparison to that large $280 million acquisition cost. It was mentioned that Kroger is reviewing non-core assets of its business and evaluating their overall contribution, and that “The sale of Vitacost is an important step in that process.”

If you’ve never shopped at Vitacost before, you can check it out at vitacost.com, where it has a 20% off sale right now on absolutely everything. iHerb is another beast that we’ve shopped at many times and have come to rely on for its incomparable variety and value.
