Delicious low-sugar miniature donut brand Glonuts decides to close its doors

Glonuts Closing Down

It was a little over a year ago that we stumbled across the fun and colorful functional company Glonuts, which makes or made packets of miniature donuts or Glonuts, as the innovative brand calls them, that had less than a gram of sugar per piece. It was mostly the sugar aspect that set them apart, as the protein wasn’t overly high at 2g each or 4g per packet, with two flavors in Classic Powdered and Snickerdoodle Crunch.

Glonuts has come out with a rather surprising announcement in that it is unfortunately closing its doors. The people behind the brand have been sharing video by video, explaining why it is discontinuing its line of low-sugar miniature donuts, some of the setbacks it had along the way, and problems that held it back from scaling. One of the big issues it mentions was a production run that failed due to a food safety issue that forced Glonuts to delay what would have been a brand-changing launch at the big box retailer Target.

For a brand that has found its way into many different and prominent stores like Fairway, ShopRite, Erewhon, HEB, and Bristol Farms, it is tough to see how the story of Glonuts turned out. Consumer packaged goods, or CPG as it’s commonly referred to, is a tough business, but we’re glad we got to see the concept unfold and make it to market, and appreciate that Glonuts is sharing its story for others to learn from.
