AST back with Zilla Protein Bar, its first new product in a very long time

zilla protein bar

It’s been more than a year and a half since we’ve seen an entirely new supplement from AST Sports Science, unless you count its BCAA-6K from early last year. Although the brand did already have a basic capsule BCAA formula. If you actually go back even further than any of that you may remember AST sampled a “gourmet” protein bar at the 2013 Mr. Olympia Expo in Las Vegas. As far as we know the brand hasn’t released any new bars since that sampling, or at least until this week as AST has just introduced its Zilla Protein Bar.

The first entirely new product from AST since its beef protein Raptor-HP, is a triple layer, soft baked candy bar style protein snack. Each 65g bar packs 20g of protein from whey isolate and concentrate, 24g of carbohydrates (5g fiber, 2g sugar), 13g of fat (7g saturated), with a total of 260 calories. The flavor seems to be the main thing AST is pushing with its Zilla Protein Bar, and has broken it down and described it layer by layer. According to the brand the bar starts with a solid coat of chocolate and a light peanut drizzle, then into a creamy butter cup layer with crunchy roasted peanuts, and lastly a protein packed soft chewy center.

AST’s all new Zilla Protein Bar hasn’t just been unveiled this week, it’s also been launched and is now available for purchase. Fans can already pick up the bar direct from the brand’s website for $18.95 a box. Each box comes with a total of six bars working out to around $3 a bar. At the moment AST only has the one flavor for Zilla with Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, which is of course the recipe described above.
