New PhD Smart Bar relies on a blend including collagen hydrolysate

Following its official debut at this past weekend’s BodyPower Expo in Birmingham England, the UK brand PhD Nutrition has launched its new protein bar competitor, the Smart Bar. The brand has done a great job at making it look quite delicious with five flavors to choose from in Chocolate Brownie, Caramel Crunch, Choc Peanut Butter, Dark Choc Raspberry, and Cookies & Cream.

Since PhD’s Smart Bar has been released, we do know all of the macros for the product, as previously we could only confirm its protein total of 20g. We do also now know the protein comes from a blend of milk, collagen hydrolysate, and soy protein. Collagen hydrolysate is, of course, the source we talked about with the recently released Bounty protein bar, as it is very different from most protein sources featuring a different balance of aminos and coming from collagen found in animal bone, skin, and connective tissue.

The others nutrition numbers making up the PhD Smart Bar are 23g of carbohydrates with almost only half a gram of that sugar, 11g of fat (7g saturated), for a total of 238 calories. It is worth mentioning those numbers are all from the product’s Caramel Crunch option and may vary slightly across the other four flavors.

If you’d like to get your hands on PhD Nutrition’s new Smart Bar, it is already available through the brand’s website. At the moment it does look like you can only purchase the protein bar in boxes of 12, at a price of £29.88, working out to exactly £2.49 a bar.
