Chef Physique Golden Bar Review: Great flavors but held back by its consistency

Chef Physique Golden Bar Review

Chef Physique is the functional brand from IFBB Pro Sadik Hadzovic, with its first product being the real food snack Golden Bar in a Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor. The macros on the protein bar are leaner than some of the other snacks out there that take the same approach packing 18g of protein, 23g of carbohydrates with 10g of that sugar, 12g of fat, and a calorie count of 241.

Review

Being big fans of the functional food and protein snack categories, we certainly wanted to try Chef Physique’s Golden Bar as we’re always interested in something new. We’ve also been incredibly impressed with the real food bars that have come to market these past few years, starting with the original Outright Protein Bar and more recent releases like the memorable Authentic Protein Bar.

Chef Physique Golden Bar Review

Chef Physique’s Golden Bar doesn’t have that smooth, melt-in-your-mouth consistency we’ve come to expect from nut butter-based snacks, or at least on the outside. It has a hard, crunchy outer layer that you really have to bite through, although once you get past that, it changes to a much smoother texture, more like we were expecting, and filled with a rich peanut butter flavor.

Throughout the Golden Bar’s main body, Chef Physique has scattered crispy pieces and chocolate chips that noticeably sweeten the experience when you hit them. They definitely add to the overall taste and drive home the name of the flavor; however, that tough exterior does get in the way, making it quite an effort to chew the bar and difficult to pick up and enjoy the sometimes hidden sweet side.

Summary

While we do like the combination of real food ingredients and leaner macros, the consistency of Chef Physique’s Golden Bar really holds it back. As mentioned, the chocolate and peanut butter flavors are there, with the chocolate being the more standout of the two; they’re just mixed with a tough texture that has you focusing more on chewing and the bits stuck in your mouth.
