Smearcase makes the first cottage cheese ice cream and it’s loaded with protein

Smearcase Protein Ice Cream

The functional category of protein ice cream has been growing a fair bit lately, and the competitors are bringing the heat. After years of a protein bar-level 20g of protein per pint, innovative companies are leaving that behind and getting into the 30s and 40s. That is precisely what you get in Smearcase’s FroCo Ice Cream, which has a little more going on than the hefty protein count that gets as high as 44g in a sizable 12oz pot.

Smearcase does indeed pack 44g of protein into its Peanut Butter Ice Cream and around 40g for its other two options, Mocha Joe and Vanilla Bean. The carbohydrates do get up there at 55 to 57g, most of that sugar at 50 to 52g, 9 to 20g of fat, and calories ranging from 450 in Vanilla Bean to 570 in Peanut Butter. That nutrition balance is similar to what you get in some protein bars, but again, here we’re talking about delicious ice cream.

Smearcase Protein Ice Crea

The unique feature of Smearcase and its FroCo Protein Ice Cream is that it’s made with cottage cheese and a touch of the multi-benefit collagen. It ensures a thick and creamy texture, and going off feedback, it doesn’t overpower the overall taste as you would think. Interestingly, Smearcase’s flagship functional product is the only cottage cheese ice cream on the market, and that’s across the board, not just protein ice cream.

Most protein ice creams approach the category with a similar recipe, not really mixing up the ingredients all that much. Smearcase’s FroCo Ice Cream not only changes the game for those in the market of better-for-you ice cream, but for the entire ice cream aisle. The cottage cheese ensures a different experience that is being well received by fans and growing in distribution, available in the likes of Sprouts, ShopRite, and Whole Foods.
