Jams takes on Uncrustables with 40% more protein and less sugar

A couple of years ago, we saw the functional brand Chubby Snacks take a swing at Uncrustables with a better-for-you version of the nostalgic snack that was absolutely delicious and much lower in sugar. It didn’t have that extra protein spin we like to see, but it was intriguing nonetheless. A fresh new name has just hit the scene called Jams, and it has put the muscle-building macro in the name of its star product, Protein PB&J.

Jams’ debut Protein PB&J is a functional protein twist on the iconic Uncrustables, where you get a sandwich pocket filled with delicious jam or jelly. Again, the newcomer has put protein in the name, although we would’ve liked to have seen a bit more than it has. In every delicious-looking Jams treat, you get 10g of protein, 25g of carbohydrates, 6g of that sugar and 4g of fiber, 14g of fat, and a sizeable calorie count of 260.

The balance is far from your traditional protein bar, very far, and while there is more protein than an Uncrustable, the difference isn’t as big as we would’ve liked to see. If you match the weight of Jams’ Protein PB&J to an uncrustable, it has just 3g more protein, a 40% jump, which isn’t a lot when you realize what you’re talking about. It is a fair amount lower in carbohydrates and sugar, but the fat is lower, and so are the calories.

Outside of the nutrition, the newcomer Jams and its Protein PB&J are going to have no trouble delivering on taste. The brand’s Strawberry and Berry flavors are made with real fruit jelly and peanut butter, and with their fair amount of sugar, they have all of the necessary tools for a delicious experience. The brand has made its market debut at the big box retailer Walmart, a huge statement and a lot of awareness right out of the gate.
