Smuckers launches a version of its nostalgic Uncrustables with twice the protein

Smuckers Protein Uncrustables

Smuckers’ Uncrustables is a nostalgic treat that almost everyone will know from their childhood and through to now, with its legendary crustless peanut butter and jelly sandwich. There are many other flavors and varieties available for the product these days, although the latest is something that may bring it back to your lunchbox. New to market this month is Protein Uncrustables in two delicious flavors.

The interesting thing about the Protein Uncrustables is that they don’t have added whey or anything like that; it seems Smuckers has simply put more peanut butter in there. Either way, the protein in the new variety is twice that of the original at 12g per sandwich, although it is worth noting that Protein Uncrustables are 38% bigger, so if you base it on gram-to-gram, the innovation is actually 50% higher in protein.

The overall nutrition profile of Smucker’s Protein Uncrustables, again, starts with 12g of protein, then you have 33g of carbohydrates, about a third of that sugar at 13g, a hefty 18g of fat, and 320 calories. As Uncrustables fans will quickly realize, you do indeed get more protein, but at the sacrifice of more total carbohydrates, sugar, and double the fat, bringing the calories that may not justify the 12g of protein for you.

The two flavors Smuckers has debuted its Protein Uncrustables in are half from the regular Uncrustables menu in the classic peanut butter and strawberry jam option, Bright-Eyed Berry, and then Up & Apple, featuring a blend of peanut butter and apple cinnamon. It is hitting supermarkets in boxes of eight sandwiches, and it will be slightly more expensive per piece than the original, especially at that bigger 80g size.
