Mountain Joe’s Rocky Road Review: A protein bar built for rocky road fans

Mountain Joe’s made quite a bit of noise earlier this year when it introduced its true rocky road style protein bar. The product was launched in three flavors, all of which we’ve finally managed to get a hold of for a hands-on review of the delicious looking snack.

The Mountain Joe’s protein bar is made with some fairly sweet ingredients including crispy pieces and marshmallows, just like traditional rocky road. Its macros are a little higher than your typical protein bar with 15g of protein and a calorie count between 235 to 241.

Review

Right off the bat, if you’re a rocky road fan looking for a protein-infused alternative, you’re going to enjoy Mountain Joe’s protein bar. The product is mostly made up of a hard, averagely sweet chocolate that doesn’t really add much to the experience outside of holding the whole thing together.

What makes Mountain Joe’s Rocky Road truly delicious are all the things that have been packed into the chocolate. The protein bar is loaded with crispy pieces and marshmallows, and in the Caramello and Peanut Butter flavors, you also get very noticeable and sweet toffee and peanut pieces.

Mountain Joe’s protein snack is quite easy to bite into and eat, with its hard chocolate mostly melting in your mouth and leaving its non-chocolate pieces to make up the overall flavor. Because of that, the Caramello and Peanut Butter flavors deliver very well on their title tastes, with the Classic option being less exciting and featuring a light chocolate marshmallow flavor.

Summary

When you roll everything in the Mountain Joe’s protein product together, you end up with exactly what the brand advertises; a rocky road style protein bar. The fact that the chocolate isn’t that sweet is a bit disappointing, however, the bar more than makes up for it with the adventurous crispy and chunky pieces throughout.
