Heinz launches Zero Tomato Ketchup without any added sugar or salt

Heinz Tomato Ketchup Zero

Functional sauces have been in the health and nutrition industry for as long as we can remember, with Walden Farms being the earliest we remember, but there are others, and many more have joined the category since then. There are now several in Europe that don’t just offer fewer calories, they’re actually enjoyable. It’s still not something mainstream brands are pushing overly intensely, although Heinz has just redjusted its better-for-you option.

In the United Kingdom, Heinz has launched a classic Tomato Ketchup Zero; however, the benefits are something fans of the brand already had access too. Heinz Zero is a ketchup without any added sugar or salt, compared to the original, with 3.4g of sugar and 300mg of sodium in a 15g serving. The brand already had Heinz No Added Salt & Sugar, which, after looking at it on paper, is the same as Ketchup Zero in ingredients and nutrition.

Basically, the already available Heinz No Added Salt & Sugar Tomato Ketchup is practically the same as Zero Tomato Ketchup. The name is a bit catchier, coming across as a more obvious, better-for-you ketchup that also doesn’t let down fans in taste. We are talking about a mainstream brand here, so its audience will be less accepting of function over form, but we have had that No Added version before, and it’s damn good for six calories.
