Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein is known very much as it’s titled, the gold standard in the incredibly saturated and competitive category of protein powder. It is from the iconic legacy brand Optimum Nutrition, and its journey throughout the years is interesting. The brand and supplement have been around for decades, but it is worth noting that before we got Gold Standard, there was Optimum Nutrition’s 100% Whey Protein.
The branding of that move to Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein is iconic, and still remains in pieces in the modern version of the reputable protein product. After some digging around, we were finally able to track down a glimpse of that original Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein and the logo it had at the time. As a platform that wasn’t around in the early 2000s, finally seeing the original is fascinating, and now we have it to share.
Back in the era of Optimum Nutrition’s 100% Whey Protein, which phased into Gold Standard in the early 2000s, the product was much the same as it is today with a blend of whey concentrate and isolate for 22g of protein per serving, 1.5g of carbohydrates, a gram of fat, and 100 calories. It came in 2lb and 5lb tubs with classic flavors like Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry, and more creative tastes in Chocolate Mint and Pina Colada.
