David Protein is one of the most disruptive names in functional food from the last couple of years, first with its record-setting Protein Bar and more recently through extensions such as its Bronze Series and Protein Ice Cream. The brand sits under the Medici House of Brands, and that operation is about to launch another intriguing venture called HallPass, created by David and its founder, Peter Rahal, alongside Stuffed Puffs founder Michael Tierney.
HallPass is not another protein snack, but rather a lower-calorie take on the classic peanut butter cup that has far fewer calories than your standard version. Inside each pack of Peanut Cups are two pieces, featuring a rich chocolatey shell around a creamy, salty-sweet peanut center, but they have just 70 calories and a single gram of sugar. That is precisely one-third of the calories of an identically sized two-pack of Peanut Butter Cups from the legendary Reese’s.
The calorie difference is made possible by EPG, the plant-based fat with a fraction of the calories of traditional fat, which also helps David reach its exceptional macros. David acquired EPG developer Epogee last year, giving the Medici family a base for products beyond protein. HallPass Peanut Cups are rolling out nationwide at the major retailer Walmart later this month for $2.96 each, just above the price of the iconic orange Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
