Idahoan is not a brand you would have thought would ever be featured here at Stack3d, where we’re all about sports nutrition supplements, functional foods, and premium beverages with quality benefits thrown in. However, it has just done something that’s put the more than half-a-century-old brand in our corner of the world with extra protein variants of some of its most popular instant mashed potato products.
To jump on the growing trend of high protein, the team at Idahoan has combined its Buttery Homestyle, Roasted Garlic, and Loaded Baked Mashed Potatoes with whey concentrate. It hasn’t changed anything else in terms of ingredients or amounts; it has very simply added whey to pump up the protein. Idahoan obviously didn’t want to disrupt the taste or texture too much, so it’s not a huge amount of extra protein at about 3 to 4g compared to the originals.
Some of the other macros marginally change, although the protein is the focus of the innovations, which all make themselves known with “Idahoan +Protein” across the front of their packaging. It’s not a huge source of protein like a protein powder or ready-to-drink protein, but it’s a great way to sneak in a few grams. The products are rolling out this month in sachets of 4.6oz, working out to the usual four servings.
