Doritos Protein Chips use milk protein to build up to 10g of protein per serving

Doritos Protein Chips

A few months ago, it was confirmed that the giant parent company, PepsiCo, would be coming out with a protein version of its hugely internationally popular Doritos tortilla chips. With the proteinification trend absolutely exploding, it was only a matter of time before it spread into more prominent mainstream foods like Doritos. Complete details on the all-new Doritos Protein Chips have now finally surfaced, and it is indeed a much better-for-you alternative to regular Doritos.

Doritos Protein Chips is rolling out to retailers shortly, and it will have a moderate 10g of protein in a 1oz serving, and that is thanks to the brand infusing it with quality milk protein. The carbohydrates are at 8g with under a gram of that sugar, an identical 8g of fat, and 150 calories. As mentioned, these numbers are per serving, not per bag, which is important, as Doritos Protein Chips are coming in a 7oz bag, which means if you crack one open and eat to the bottom, you’re looking at 70g of protein, 56g of carbohydrates, and a total calorie count of 1,050.

The challenge Doritos Protein Chips is facing, at least from the health and nutrition side of things, is how good do they taste. The industry has had great-tasting protein tortilla chips for quite some time from Quest Nutrition and Legendary Foods, and they have close to or twice the protein for the same amount of calories. In saying that, even if the innovation does fall short of the competition, it is a great way to introduce Doritos consumers to the high-protein lifestyle.

We look forward to finding out firsthand how good Doritos Protein Chips taste in its one Sweet & Tangy BBQ flavor, especially next to the tasty Quest Protein Chips and Legendary’s Protein Chips. With a volume of 7oz, it won’t be as cheap as a single-serving bag, but again, if you break it down per serving and take a handful at a time, it can be a great-value protein snack.
