David delivers a fluffy texture, on-point chocolate and subtle flavor in its Bronze Bar

David Bronze Protein Bar Review

Functional innovator, David, really surprised us right at the start of the year with the introduction of its Bronze Protein Bar. It is a separate protein bar from its original gold-wrapped offering with 28g of protein and 150 calories. The David Bronze Bar has 20g of protein, still zero sugar, and the same 150 calories, and it features a very different eating experience in a candy bar-style build with a soft and doughy main body, scattered bits and pieces, and a chocolate coating.

The David Bronze Protein Bar seems very much like the brand’s answer to the likes of Barebells, Grenade, ESN, and other successful protein snacks that aim to replicate a sugar-filled candy treat without the sugar and a lot more protein. After hearing about the approach the brand takes in the Bronze Bar, we ordered it as soon as it went live at davidprotein.com to find out for yourselves how a more form over function from the likes of David would taste and measure up to the competition.

Review

We grabbed a box of the Peanut Butter Chocolate Crunch and S’mores Chocolate Crunch David Bronze Protein Bars, and we will admit, it’s quite impressive following the original gold David Protein Bar, which is functional above all. Firstly, the brand absolutely nails the texture on this one, as the main body is best described as fluffy, a far cry from the all-too-common doughy base you bite into and get with the majority of protein bars on the market.

In addition to that standout consistency, the David Bronze Protein Bar hits on the chocolate taste that wraps around the outside of the snack. That rich outer layer is impressively rich and leaves a sweet chocolate taste in your mouth throughout each bite, right to the end. The other tastes are there, like the marshmallow in S’mores Chocolate Crunch and peanut butter in Peanut Butter Chocolate Crunch, although they are far more subtle and not as easy to spot.

Summary

The texture of David’s newly released Bronze Protein Bar is the star of the show, followed by the decadent chocolate. It could definitely do with some strengthening of the individual flavors, as the S’mores and Peanut Butter did feel awfully similar to us, which is not what you want with what is meant to be different options. That is one of the main separators from the likes of Barebells and Grenade, as they are a bit denser but quickly make up for that by over-delivering on their distinct tastes like a sweet raspberry, salted caramel, and on-point peanut butter.

Overall, David already caught our attention with the idea behind the Bronze Protein Bar, and has doubled down on that attention-grabbing with a texture that is not that easy to find in the world of protein snacks and functional food. Again, we did feel the individual tastes and flavors intended to separate each option, to be lacking; however, with the soft and sluffy consistency, and the macros this one has at 20g of protein to 150 calories, this is definitely one we’ll be grabbing again.
