AstraGin is one of the most widely used ingredients in sports nutrition, and with its proven absorption and uptake benefits, it’s very understandable why. Brands utilize the premium product in almost every category possible in an effort to enhance absorption of a formula and, in turn, get more results out of the individual ingredients. Nuliv Science, the company behind AstraGin, has just published an exciting new study that shows just how effective the ingredient is when put into a whey protein powder.
Nuliv Science has done a randomized, placebo-controlled study involving 30 adults and found that its AstraGin blend of astragalus and panax saponins increased amino acid absorption from whey protein. The combination had even greater effects after four weeks, including higher uptake of the crucial BCAAs, leucine and valine.

Immediate use showed modest increases in amino acid absorption, with valine up 6.67% and leucine up 3.62%, while four weeks of AstraGin and whey protein powder significantly amplified those effects to 14.07% and 8.34%, alongside a 6.33% increase in isoleucine. Those improvements translated into measurable performance outcomes, including a 5.20% increase in grip strength and a small rise in muscle mass. The long-term results are extremely interesting, as they show that the more you consecutively use it, the more it improves your gut’s ability to absorb and utilize amino acids from protein.
As mentioned, AstraGin is already one of the most widely used ingredients in the sports nutrition category, especially in pre-workouts, muscle builders, fat burners, and other areas where getting the most out of your formula matters. Nuliv Science’s new study reinforces just how beneficial it is in protein powder, by notably improving the absorption of the naturally occurring amino acids in protein that can lead to greater strength, growth, and recovery.
