Jacked Granny has always kept its protein bar remarkably simple, describing it as one of the cleanest and most stripped-back competitors in the category. The core Peanut Butter flavor uses only peanuts, maple syrup, and egg whites, while the other flavors, Dark Chocolate, Coconut, and PB & J add just one extra ingredient. That minimalist recipe provides 16g of protein, around 20g of carbohydrates, roughly 2g of fat, and 180 calories.
The challenge with Jacked Granny came when it was told it would need preservatives to scale the business and extend shelf life. Rather than changing the bar, the company changed the packaging, flying to Spain, purchasing a tin-sealing machine, and putting each bar into a pull-tab can. The hermetic seal effectively handles preservation from the outside, allowing the ingredient list and original recipe to remain completely untouched.
It is an unusual move for the protein bar category and, as far as we know, the first protein bar we’ve ever seen packaged this way. The tins cost more than traditional wrappers, but Jacked Granny sees that as a worthwhile trade-off for keeping the bar preservative-free and true to its original idea. The package is also infinitely recyclable, while the bar inside remains the same stripped-down, simple snack with 16g of protein and 180 calories.
