Dragon Override review: Powerful pre-workout great for stimulant fans

dragon override review

We were fortunate enough to get Human Evolution’s reformulated Dragon Override before it was launched just last week. The pre-release opportunity gave us a good two week run with the supplement before it went on sale. In that time we put the pre-workout to the test in a number of scenarios, and back to back with a number of competitors to come up with today’s Dragon Override review. As per usual we’ll be going over all the effects the brand promise for the product, and letting you know how well Dragon Override performs in each area.

All the energy you need

Starting out with the effect that kicks off all pre-workouts, we have Dragon Override’s energy. Being a rather concentrated supplement with a handful of stimulants which includes 400mg of caffeine, it’s no surprise the pre-workout delivers quite well in this area. The energizing feeling comes on rather strong, getting you ready to go a little sooner than most others. The effect definitely borders on uncomfortable at the maximum single scoop serving, although once you get going the high does calm down a bit. Like all good pre-workout kicks there is a little more to the start of Dragon Override as you’ll also feel the focus working its way in fairly early.

Mind altering focus

It’s around about five or so minutes after the energy kicks in that the focus will begin getting you in the zone. While the mind altering effect is always the most difficult promise to deliver on, Human Evolution almost nail it for Dragon Override. If we had to give the brand a rating out of five, the focus would definitely be on the positive side between 3 and 4. It’s not exactly enough to over power or even equal the energy, but plenty to get your head straight and focused on the mission that lies ahead. The focus also manages to hold its ground during your workout, unlike a lot Dragon Override’s competitors where the effect tends to fade away or isn’t even noticeable.

Stimulation over performance

Thanks to both the energy and surprisingly clear focus, Dragon Override will have you destined for a great workout before you even get going. With that being said there are a few more things worth pointing out about the product. Once you get going and start working through your session you will quickly realize there isn’t much of a performance side to Dragon Override. By that we mean it doesn’t exactly refuel you as well as other effective pre-workout supplements. The downside is best noticed when you push yourself through a grueling leg day or something equally exhausting. You’ll find the product gives you the energy to go rep after rep, but not necessarily the fuel to perform heavy sets or complex exercises at the strength you know you can. The lack of performance isn’t really a bad thing especially for those that like a more stimulating experience, however well worth mentioning for those who prefer a balance of energy and performance in their pre-workout.

Intense pump, but still lacking

Lastly is the pump, which we wouldn’t exactly rate highly but do feel it has somewhat of a presence in Dragon Override. With such a strong hit of energy and focus we feel the pump is kind of overshadowed, as the two star effects are so strong you may not notice the it at all. Of the two kinds of pumps we’ve experienced, we feel Dragon Override’s effort falls more into the area of focused and intense as opposed to swole and just pumping you up. The effect is most obvious in high rep isolation workouts where you’re able to focus on smaller muscles and groups. This is also where the focus side of Dragon Override lends a bit of a hand as it gives you the ability to almost zone in on the targeted muscle and inflict as much pain as you can enjoy.

Dragon Override review, final words

Human Evolution’s AMP citrate free Dragon Override definitely delivers as a pre-workout. It doesn’t quite come through overly well on all the effects it promises, although still results in an experience that stimulant addicts will no doubt enjoy. Unfortunately we do feel the supplement is like a lot of others we’ve tried. Not to take anything away from the product as it is effective and does the job, however the formula’s combination of effects isn’t anything new. These days it is fairly common for a pre-workout to offer a good dose of energy and focus, with a touch of pump, which doesn’t really make Dragon Override stand out in an extremely crowded category. If it had a bit more pump or focus it might have enough to stand out, but with what it’s got at the moment we are left with the feeling that we’ve tried this supplement many times before.
